Neuro-Endoscopic Care
Neuro-endoscopic specialists in the University of Mississippi Medical Center neurosurgery department use endoscopes to gain access to the brain, spine, and peripheral nervous system, allowing a minimally invasive approach to some lesions. Our neurosurgeons use state-of the-art instrumentation and neuro-endoscopic techniques in the management of hydrocephalus, cystic lesions of the brain and spinal cord, tumors, vascular lesions, degenerative spine disease. and nerve entrapments.
A special MRI-compatible endoscope allows some neuro-endoscopic procedures to be performed in UMMC's interventional MRI suite. This technique is particularly useful in the management of complex cystic lesions of the brain when the normal anatomical landmarks on which conventional neuro-endoscopy is based have been distorted by disease or trauma.
